disadvantages are partly covered in the section "Alternatives to balanced funds": comparatively high costs; can't get the exact asset allocation you want (and it won't change over time as the investor gets older); no control over asset location, with tax consequences. --Quebec 16:15, 26 January 2015 (MST)
