Talk:Cash and cash equivalents
First thought, renaming as Cash and cash equivalents might be a better choice, to me gives a better indication that article is about the asset class.

- You can do it, look at the options available under the More tab, right beside the Search box. Help:Moving a page gives the details. --Peculiar Investor 15:49, 29 January 2015 (MST)
What about taxes?
Should the effects of taxation (asset location) be included in this page? I don't know, but wanted to bring up this point. --LadyGeek 18:49, 29 January 2015 (MST)
Sortable tables
I've used class="wikitable sortable", but the tables are not sortable. What am I doing wrong? Thanks! --Quebec 06:28, 31 January 2015 (MST)
- Nevermind, got it (must use "!" for titles, and get rid of superfluous formatting inherited from "excel to wiki"). Making pretty tables is not easy!--Quebec 06:41, 31 January 2015 (MST)
Withdrawal stage
I'm in the accumulation stage, I've read about cash-bonds-stocks quite a bit for this stage, so I'm confident that the "accumulation stage" section is pretty sound. For the withdrawal stage, I'm years away from there, I haven't read a lot about this stage yet, and someone else needs to check/expand this section please. Thanks --Quebec 11:43, 31 January 2015 (MST)
- The role of cash (and cash equivalents) in the withdrawal (decumulation) stage may be tricky, as the objective is to both maximize the time that the funds will last and minimize taxes. Additionally, you have Old Age Security and Canada Pension Plan income streams kicking in. In other words, you need to define a strategy in which cash places a role - what you've already mentioned. I'm not sure if anything more can be said in the context of this page, as the role of cash is now dependent on the investor's own situation. --LadyGeek 18:08, 31 January 2015 (MST)
- Agree that there is no "one size fits all" approach during the withdrawal phase in particular. I've included the idea that pensions must be taken into account, and linked "retirement planning", in the section "Role of cash in long-term portfolios". But after reorganizing the article, there is almost nothing left in the "Withdrawal stage" section. I remember reading about the "cash wedge strategy" somewhere, should this be discussed? --Quebec 07:03, 1 February 2015 (MST)
- I found a few references in an FWF forum search, but nothing definitive. The scope of this page is to describe an asset class. Adding a cash-only strategy changes the scope of the page. The perceived lack of content is just that - a perception. There's no requirement to have an equal amount of text for each section. I think what you've described so far is fine. --LadyGeek 11:38, 1 February 2015 (MST)

Ready for main space?
I'm done with this article. Ready for prime time? --Quebec 18:08, 5 February 2015 (MST)
- Now it is. I added a link to Asset classes. The "Cash and equivalents" section will need an update. After it's moved, I recommend starting a forum thread for discussion. --LadyGeek 18:24, 5 February 2015 (MST)
- Agreed, be bold! --Peculiar Investor 22:38, 5 February 2015 (MST)
