Talk:ESG portfolio screening
Article title and use of acronym
Should this article be named Environmental, social and corporate governance portfolio screening and have the common acronym defined in the first sentence, and then have a redirect from ESG portfolio screening? This seems to be covered in Wikipedia:Article titles in the section Article title format. --Peculiar Investor 11:06, 29 December 2020 (MST)
- In finance, ESG is a common term ("Abbreviations and acronyms are often ambiguous and thus should be avoided unless the subject is known primarily by its abbreviation and that abbreviation is primarily associated with the subject"). --LadyGeek 05:31, 30 December 2020 (MST)
- I cannot agree. ESG is a relatively newer financial term and I would guess it is only known by knowledgeable investors, definitely not newcomers who often struggle with basics like ETFs and other very common financial terms like TFSAs. The wiki pages for those articles use the spelt out version and a redirect from the acronym. ESG covers a very narrow slice of the investing market participants. It is gaining in popularity, but it is still far from a common term, heck even on Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESG. Hence per Wikipedia standards it should likely be spelt out on first use. --Peculiar Investor 09:00, 30 December 2020 (MST)
- If there is a redirect, it does not matter to me what is the official name of the article.--Quebec 17:00, 30 December 2020 (MST)

Ready for promotion to Main article space?
I see no reason (other that article title) that this article shouldn't be moved into the Main article space. --Peculiar Investor 08:10, 31 December 2020 (MST)
- After giving a last chance for comments on the forum, and getting very few replies, I've promoted the article to main space, with the existing title. As indicated above, the title could be changed to use the expanded acronym, as long as a redirect is left. I don't care either way.--Quebec 09:04, 11 January 2021 (MST)
- Is there any reason you've kept the redirects? i.e. Does User:Quebec/ESG portfolio screening need to exist? If there are FWF posts mentioning it they can be updated to the new location. --Peculiar Investor 09:46, 11 January 2021 (MST)
- "Redirect", hum maybe I clicked or un-ticked something wrong? Please correct the problem if you think there is one.--Quebec 11:05, 11 January 2021 (MST)
- After reading Help:Moving a page I learned something about moving pages and why I therefore I might have confused you. "Users with the suppressredirect user right can optionally move a page without creating a redirect." That right applies to admins but not users, so you never had the option. --Peculiar Investor 11:55, 11 January 2021 (MST)
