Talk:Gummy-stuff

From finiki, the Canadian financial wiki

I suggest removing the sortable table, as several topics start with "a," "the," or a number e.g. "A stock screener." Sorting does not help find the information. It's better to suggest that the reader use the built-in browser search, IOW use Ctl+f to find the text on the page. The original table format can then be utilized (with some modification of the table border).

Good suggestions, have been implemented, with minor modifications. --Peculiar Investor 07:13, 11 November 2012 (MST)

Should the article state the exact (by human count) number of tutorials, or would wording like comprises over 400 tutorials on a variety of financial and non-financial topics be better and more maintainable? --Peculiar Investor 07:25, 11 November 2012 (MST)

There is no intention to modify the content, there is no need to further "sell" the article with a marketing phrase "comprises over 400 tutorials..." I recommend to leave the wording intact. As for:

The tutorials table below contains all the original gummy'isms, i.e. spelling and grammar mistakes are gummy's. gummy's choices of colours and fonts have been removed to conform with Wiki standards. The table is presented in its original order. There is absolutely NO intention to Wikify the actual tutorials. Have you looked at the html source? We have.

This article is a replication of Gummy's front page, nothing more. There's no reason to tell the reader about an action you have no intention to do. The next question will be "why not?" The html source comment is out of place.
Suggest (without the block quote). Unless you want to put the colours back:

In the spirit of maintaining fidelity, we have kept all of the gummy'isms, i.e. the spelling and grammar mistakes are gummy's, and the table is presented in its original order. We had to modify the fonts and colours, as they just wouldn't work with finiki (sorry).

Finally, the page name should be in the spirit of Gummy: "Gummy stuff - eh?" The members will appreciate it.

Although the article is in my User space, others are welcome to be bold and edit changes in --Peculiar Investor 11:04, 11 November 2012 (MST)

You have to make up your mind what you are going to do with it. What is its purpose? Is it just to replicate gummy's front page in wikispace? Will it be protected? --Shakespeare 11:17, 11 November 2012 (MST)

Revision of introduction

A proposal to reword the introduction- The opening statement never says where the site is archived. I removed the "tech" and "experimental" aspects.

Modified introduction

Peter Ponzo ("Pietro"), also known as "gummy"[1], created a large number of tutorials after his retirement from the University of Waterloo. It is an honour for the Financial Wisdom Forum to provide an archive of that body of work, which is known as "gummy-stuff", and comprises a total of 466 tutorials on a variety of financial and non-financial topics. This article provides links to those archived tutorials for greater ease of access.

The tutorials table below contains all the original gummy'isms, i.e. spelling and grammar mistakes are gummy's. [footnotes 1]

Tip: Your browser's search function (press Ctrl + F) can be used to find specific topics of interest.

Notes:

  1. ^ gummy's choices of colours and fonts have been removed to conform with Wiki standards. The table is presented in its original order. There is no intention to Wikify the actual tutorials.
