Image size standardization
Is there a standard for image size when using this template? The documentation subpage makes a repeated mentions of:
image
– an optional right-side image, coded as the whole image, such as:[[File:XX.jpg|80px|link=|alt=]]
Therefore in the absence of a standard, I would suggest that 80px
should be considered the default choice to be used.
The same question/proposal has been asked on the Bogleheads wiki, Template talk:Navbox

- I have replied in the Bogleheads wiki Template talk:Navbox. Wikipedia's current guidance is to remove the images. See: Wikipedia:Navigation_template (Navigation templates are not arbitrarily decorative)
- There may be a difference of opinion between the Bogleheads wiki and finiki. I recommend a discussion in the private finiki editor's forum. The Bogleheads wiki editors are also discussing this issue in their private wiki editor's forum. --LadyGeek 14:11, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- Let's keep the discussion here, then it is fully self-documenting on what decisions where made.
- Wikipedia is an encyclopedia whereas finiki is more of a knowledge base. Removing the images could lead to the wiki becoming a wall of text devoid of colour or images. From MOS:DECOR a key statement for me is "They should provide additional useful information on the article subject, serve as visual cues that aid the reader's comprehension, or improve navigation". To me that is the essential question we need to ask ourselves. In most cases I think that one can argue that the images on the navboxes serve as visual clues to the purpose of why the navbox is there in the first place.
- I would be against a policy of removing all images from Navboxes.--Peculiar Investor 15:36, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- You make a good point. finiki and the Bogleheads wikis are knowledge bases - not encyclopedias. I agree to keep the images. --LadyGeek 15:49, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
- The documentation in Template:Navbox (copied from Wikipedia) shows the parameter
imageleft =
parameter is no longer in use (what we use in all our navigation templates). The parameter is onlyimage =
and places it on the right side of the menu. I propose replacingimageleft
withimage
in the navigation templates. --LadyGeek 00:32, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
